New Delhi: Activist Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan on Tuesday ridiculed Prime Minister Modi challenging the Congress to fight elections in the name of former PM Rajiv Gandhi associated with Bofors. In a tweet, he questioned the BJP using his book “Bofors: The selling of a Nation” to justify Modi’s abuse of Rajiv Gandhi. “Bofors was a Rs 64 cr commission scam, but Rafale is Rs 30Kcr scam, where back of AF (Air Force) was broken & security compromised by reducing 126 planes that AF needed to 36, so 30Kcr could be given to Ambani,” Bhushan tweeted. Another activist Ravi Nair tweeted that Modi wants to debate on issues which happened 30 to 40 years back.
“Will Modi be ready to debate on issues happened under him? Demonetisation, Rafale, GSPC, Adani projects, fudged GDP numbers and of course, 2002 genocide are few,” Nair asked. A Congress spokesman said a party delegation that met the Election Commission Monday evening is awaiting its action on PM Modi’s derogatory remarks on Rajiv Gandhi as “Bhrashtachari No 1” in Bofors case despite he getting a clean chit in the case from Delhi High Court in 2004 and his government to reopen the case in 2018 was dismissed by the Supreme Court.
Bhushan also expressed shock over the lawyers and women activists picked up from outside the Supreme Court on Tuesday while protesting against “bogus clean” chit given to CJI. Protesters asked: “Are judges above the law? On the in-house committee of three sitting judges giving the clean chit to CJI Ranjan Gogoi, they decried its ruling on the ground that “no external member in the committee, report not made public, complainant not allowed lawyer and ex-partee report.”Prohibitory orders under Section 144 were imposed outside the Supreme Court following the protests against the procedure adopted to deal with sexual harassment case against CJI Gogoi.Even TV journalists talking to the protesters and taking a video of police pushing and manhandling the protesters were put in the police van.
