Says only matter of satisfaction is that the PM found the time to answer someone’s questions

New Delhi : Taking a very dim of the claims made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding his government’’s achievements over the last two years in an interview to a 24×7 news channel, Ghulam Nabi Azad, leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha has said that the only matter of satisfaction is that the ‘’prime minister found the time to answer someone’’s questions.”

“Otherwise my experience over the last two years has been that the prime minister has never bothered to answer even a single question, whether in the parliament or outside. He delivers speeches both at home and when abroad, but he never responds to questions. It would have been better if instead of talking to journalist, he had addressed a press conference, so that other journalists too could have got the chance to ask their questions,” he said at a media conference.

“When we say that he has not answered our questions, we do not have anything personal about these issues. These questions are related to the people’’s problems, and their concerns. The tall promises that he made during the election campaign and the complete failure to redeem any one of them,” he said.

Contesting media reports based on the prime minister’’s comments on the BJP leader Subramanian Swamy amounted to a ‘’snub,” Azad observed that all that Modi had said on the issue could be summed-up as an advisory. ”When a political party delivers a snub, then it means that the person is either dropped from a position of power or downgraded in some way. The prime minister’’s comment is akin to something that is told to a child, don’’t do this,” he added.

Azad said that in the same way the prime minister’’s response to a question about the attempts to polarise the atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh on communal lines is ‘’very disappointing.’’’’ He said instead of making a strong statement against these leaders of his party who are ministers in his government and parliamentarians from his party the prime minister has advised the media that it should not make ‘’heroes out of them.”

“Clearly, the prime minister wants the media to shut its eyes towards them, just as he has done. He wants this to continue-jo ho raha hai hone do- Can this be considered a responsible statement,” observed the Congress leader who is also the general secretary incharge for Uttar Pradesh.

In the context of the Modi government’’s foreign policy, Azad said that there is no doubt that the prime minister has been very active. ”He has travelled to several countries and made personal friends with several top leaders. But the crucial question to ask is what have been the benefits for the country? Whether it is Pakistan or China our relations have not improved. Pakistan continues with cross border terrorism and violations across the border and line of control, and China continues to oppose us at international fora,” he said.
