Dalit man commits suicide over alleged encroachment

Muzaffarnagar:  A 35-year-old Dalit man allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison after the custody of his land was seized by revenue department at Sikreda village here, police said.

The victim, identified as Ram Singh, took the extreme step after he found his nine bigha land was seized by revenue department during checking in alleged Hastinapur sanctuary land grab case some days ago, police said.

As many as 30 cases have been registered in different police stations against the alleged encroachment on government land in 27 villages in the district.

Earlier, six revenue officials were suspended in the case and district authorities also sealed a rice mill established by land mafias on the encroached land.
