New Delhi : Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar are continuing with their game on one-upmanship. Before the Election Commission announced the election schedule for Bihar, the Union cabinet approved a six percent increase in DA for central government employees, making the total to 119 percent. This decision would benefit 48 lakh employees and 55 lakh pensioners.
The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Modi has approved the increase, which is in accordance with the accepted formula, based on the recommendations of the 6th Central Pay Commission. The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief would be Rs. 6655.14 crore per annum and Rs.4436.76
crore in the financial year 2015-16 (for a period of 8 months from July, 2015 to February, 2016).
Considering that the dearness allowances of the state government employees are in sync with the rates for the central government employees, Kumar also announced the same hike for the state government employees.
There are expectations that with more disposable income available to them, the government employees would be able to make some contribution to the sluggish economy as well.
