Crackdown on land mafia, 23 cases registered

Muzaffarnagar (UP): 23 cases have been registered for alleged encroachment of government land in 27 villages in the district in connection with Hastinapur sanctuary land scam and Gangster Act will be invoked against the accused, a senior official said today.

According to Additional District Magistrate Indermani Tripathi, district authorities found that sugarcane crops had been grown on 169 bigha of encroached government land during checking in 27 villages.

Police have registered 23 cases against land mafias in connection with the scam. Properties of land mafias would be seized after invoking Gangster Act against them, he said.

Checking will continue to find out any encroachment on government land, he added.
