Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has demanded 1.50 crore vaccines for July as the government claims to attain the capacity to administer 15 lakh vaccines a day. Letters have been sent to the Prime Minister and Union Health Minister from Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Health Minister of the state Raghu Sharma regarding this.

‘Due to our efforts, the number of people who got vaccinated early on was among the highest. As a result, more than 70 lakh people would be due for their second dose by the end of July 2021. To ensure time-bound expeditious vaccination, we have created a capacity to vaccinate over 15 lakh persons per day,’ said CM Ashok Gehlot in his letter to PM Narendra Modi.

Gehlot said in his letter that presently daily vaccination in the state is limited to the extent of supplies received from the Central Government which is around 3 to 4 lakh only. He urged the PM to intervene personally and direct the concerned to ensure an adequate supply of vaccines for the state.

While state’s health minister Raghu Sharma has demanded to increase the quota of the state from 65 lakh to 1.50 crore for July 2021. "The state has administered more than 2.39 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine till June 26th, but the state has now no vaccines to administer the first dose to the eligible persons," said Raghu Sharma in his letter to union health minister Dr Harshvardhan.

It is to note that due to the shortage of vaccines, vaccination drive had to be stopped at many places in the state including Jaipur on Monday.
