The decision was taken after charges of large-scale irregularities in the intermediate examinations held this yearPatna : Bihar School Examination Board on Saturday cancelled the affiliation of Vishnudeo Rai Intermediate College of Bhagwanpur in Vaishali district, 25 kms from here on charges of large-scale irregularities in the intermediate examinations. The board also cancelled the results of two toppers, Saurabh Shresth and Rahul Prabhakar who had got first and third positions respectively in the Intermediate Science examinations this year. Arts topper of the state Ruby Rai has been asked to reappear for test on June 11 as her result is also under suspicion.

Since 2005, students of the Vishnudeo Rai College had been getting top positions in the Inter examination results. Last year too, its students had topped the examinations. This year, both arts and science toppers were also from this college.

The board had called the 14 top scorers of both science and arts examinations for fresh tests and interview at the board office, where they were given five sets of questions and were interviewed by the teachers in respective subjects. Eleven students could satisfy the examiners and the toppers failed. The Board after five hours long meeting with the experts decided to cancel the examination of the toppers and withdrew their results. It also decided to cancel affiliation granted to the college.

Board chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh said the state government is being requested to set up a judicial inquiry commission headed by a retired judge of Patna High Court to probe the affairs of the college.

Management of the college had supported the RJD during the last assembly elections and its chairman was seen campaigning for Lalu Prasad’s son Tejpratap, currently heath minister in his constituency. Rai himself is an office-bearer of the RJD.

Education minister Ashok Kumar Chaudhury said the board may institute FIRs against the examiners and officials responsible for the unfair practice and manipulation in answer sheets.
