New Delhi: The Congress is sending out a clear message its slogan “Chowkidar chor hai” remains high on its political campaign against PM Modi to prevent any misgivings in public mind from Rahul Gandhi’s apology in the Supreme Court. Rahul stressed on the slogan at every rally on Wednesday and Thursday even though the Congress said its leaders and workers would keep repeating it across the country.

A stepped-up stress on the slogan is an attempt to dilute the political fallout of the development in the SC that asked Rahul to file an unconditional apology for his claim the court had concurred with his remark of “Chowkidar chor hai” in its Rafale deal ruling. His counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi agreed on the apology after the SC told him that a mere regret won’t do. Rahul has begun rallies with stress on his chowkidar remark to assert there is no question of withdrawing the charge of the wrongdoing on Modi. “The BJP has written to EC I cannot use the word chowkidar.

Wah! Only Modi can use the word chowkidar. He became chowkidar and went on a stealing spree. Now, he says every is a chowkidar… Modiji, the entire Hindustan is not chor, only one chowkidar is chor. All others are honest. Nobody else has stolen Rs30,000 crore to give Anil Ambani,” Rahul has been reiterating. As people cheer and repeat the slogan, Rahul says: “You can try anywhere in the country, in any social group. You go to a hardcore RSS worker and say chowkidar. He will have to restrain himself with effort not to mouth chor hai. Now, I say chowkidar and people complete the slogan as this has entered deep into their hearts.”

Congress spokesman Pawan Khera asserted at a press briefing here the apology was only in a particular context the slogan was attributed to the SC. “We respect the judiciary; we built institutions. We have apologised. But the govt and the PM misled the court, lied to the court by giving wrong facts and hiding crucial facts relating to the Rafale deal… Modi not only lied to the court but to the country. Chowkidar chor bhi hai, jhootha bhi hai,” Khera added.
