‘Dissolving the assembly seems the best option to end the political chaos’
New Delhi : In the wake of the ongoing row over government formation in Delhi, Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Wednesday said the invitation to the BJP to form government in the national capital would leave an impression that the Centre is pressurising Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung.
“If the BJP is allowed to form the government in spite of knowing that they don’t have the proper numbers then whole country would doubt that the Centre is pressurising LG to call them for forming the government,” Alvi said.
Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal commenting on the controversy suggested that dissolving the Delhi Assembly was the best option to end the political chaos.
“What is happening in Delhi is not good for the democracy. If horse trading is indeed happening then it is not good. Dissolution and re-election is the best option so that the people can choose a popular government,” he said.
An AAP delegation led by party chief Arvind Kejriwal met the Lieutenant Governor earlier in the day and formally requested him to rewrite a new letter to President Pranab Mukherjee seeking dissolution of the Delhi Assembly.
The Supreme Court had earlier on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the case on formation of government in Delhi till October 10.
The apex court had earlier asked the Centre to take a decision on holding fresh elections in Delhi following a petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party asking for the dissolution of the assembly and fresh polls.
Delhi has been under President’s rule since Kejriwal resigned as the Chief Minister on February 14 after being in office for 49 days.
The BJP won 31 seats in the 70-member house while the AAP emerged victorious in 28 seats in the Delhi Assembly polls held last year.
