New Delhi : There is no parity between the sums involved, but the Congress has questioned the BJP for its decision to fund Shree Multi Media Vision Ltd. which owns the Mumbai Tarun Bharat and is a ‘for profit’ Public Limited Company.
These questions mirror the attack launched by BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy on Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul for financing Associated Journals with loans of Rs.90 crores for defunct the National Herald newspaper.
Party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah’s intervention to sack Maharashtra minister Vinod Tawde who is a company director. ‘‘The BJP’s defence that he is an honorary director is untenable as in the Indian Companies Act, there is no concept of Honorary Director,” he said.
Surjewala said that the company Shree Multi Vision has been not only provided funds by the BJP, but it also shares office space with the party. ‘‘So, is it permissible for a political party to indulge in all these activities,” he added.
He also charged that union transport minister Nitin Gadkari is also one of the shareholders of the company. ‘‘But in his declaration before the Election Commission, he has not listed the details and covered it under miscellaneous items. The prime minister and the BJP president must ensure that he reveals the details of all such investments so that the public is aware of his business interests,” he added. The details of this financing episode by the BJP had emerged recently in media reports.
