New Delhi : A day after the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP workers had a violent clash, the Congress acknowledged that it welcomes Arvind Kejriwal’s efforts to expose the ground realities of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s model of development.
“We welcome that someone is showing to the people what does the Gujarat model actually mean. We have been doing it for years, but now that someone else is also doing it, we appreciate that,” said union minister and party spoke-sperson Shashi Tharoor.
But then his support for Kejriwal was very limited.” The clash between the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP workers also shows as to what happens when the ideology of hate and violence clashes with an anarchist. This is the kind of alternative that awaits, if you do not opt for the Congress,” he added.
Tharoor’s positive support for Kejriwal’s anti-Modi drive lends credence to the BJP’s contention that having lost the battle on the ground the Congress is now fighting it through a proxy. The BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had recently asserted that this use of proxy is an acceptance of defeat by the Congress.
“Kejriwal was doing something that should have been done by the media,” said Tharoor adding that instead of accepting the ‘PR press release” of the Modi government, it should have done some more investigative work on the Gujarat model.
The Congress spokesperson stoutly defended the party’s alliance with the Lalu Prasad Yadav-led RJD.” The alliance goes beyond one person. There is a convergence of ideology between the two parties. In so far as the RJD president is concerned, if finally convicted, he will have to face the consequences,” he added.
