Bhopal: Pitching for Congress candidate Digvijaya Singh, hundreds of sadhus descended on the state capital on Tuesday and began ”hatha yoga” and other rituals. Led by Namdevdas Tyagi, alias Computer Baba, the sadhus will camp in city for three days to ensure Singh’s victory in the election slated on May 12. The self-styled godman, who was recently appointed chairman of a river trust by the Congress government in the state, has extended his support to Digvijaya Singh, the party’s Bhopal candidate. As former chief minister Digvijaya Singh — dressed in a white kurta pyjama and accompanied by Amrita Singh — arrived at the site, the Computer Baba blessed the couple, saying: ‘Dharma Ki Jai Ho, Adharm Ka Nash Ho’.
The couple also performed ‘havan’ at the site. “The saints prayed that Digvijaya Singh — who is treading on the path of religion and who has served the river Narmada — should win by lakhs of votes,’’ said the Baba, when he was asked if the rituals were performed to ensure Singh’s victory. Asked about Pragya Singh Thakur, the BJP candidate, an accused in the Malegaon blast case, he said one cannot become a sadhvi (saint) merely by wearing a robe. Digvijaya will win the election and around 10,000 sadhu and sants will campaign for him, he added.
Computer Baba, who was bestowed minister of state status by the then BJP-led government in Madhya Pradesh and appointed on a panel to clean the Narmada, had accused former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of illegal sand mining in river Narmada. “BJP sarkaar 5 saal mein Ram Mandir bhi nahi bana paayi. Ab Ram Mandir nahi toh Modi nahi,” the Baba said. Many sadhus had accompanied Pragya Thakur, too, on the day she filed her nomination papers.
