New Delhi: The Congress is quick to cook up the charge of Thug master on PM Modi as an alternative to its ad campaign titled ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ banned in Madhya Pradesh by its Joint Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Kaul on a BJP complaint. Though the ban is limited to the jurisdiction of Madhya Pradesh, the Congress lost no time in directing all state units to change the tagline of campaign to “Thug master” to paint Modi as a great swindler.
The BJP leaders had rushed to the Madhya Pradesh election office on Wednesday with a complaint that the Congress was distorting its own slogan of “Main Bhi Chowkidar” as duly approved by the EC’s media certification and monitoring committee. Though the publicity material in Madhya Pradesh — including posters, radio jingles and television commercials — will not have chowkidar chor hai slogan, the party leaders continue to harp on this theme based on the allegations in the Rafale deal.
Even today, this slogan was repeatedly heard at public rallies that Congress president Rahul Gandhi addressed. At Tapi in Gujarat, public erupted on Friday with “chowkidar chor hai” as soon as Rahul took the mike. He smiled and asked the public to also call Modi a “Thug master”. Rahul explained how Gujarat gave all 26 Lok Sabha seats to Modi who wanted to become the country’s chowkidar, but he ended up stealing Rs30,000 crore in Rafale deal to give to Anil Ambani.
The new Congress theme song in Madhya Pradesh explains how Modi destroyed jobs and businesses by demonetisation and GST and failed to deliver on any promises under the tagline: “Thug master se bach kar rahna (Beware of thug master).” On jobs, the jingle goes like this: “Logan ke rozgar naam ke nahin/Aisa thug master kaam ka nahi. (People have no jobs/Such thug master is of no use).”
