EC stalls transfer of 5 DMs in Rajasthan
New Delhi: The Election Commission on Tuesday stalled the transfer of five District Collectors in Rajasthan where assembly elections are due later this year. The Commission wrote to the state government that the transfer of five district magistrates initiated by it would not be carried out till the process of special summary revision of electoral rolls is underway. The transfer of District Collectors was done by the stategovernment in contravention of its own orders issued sometime ago that no official should be transferred in the state during the process of summary revision of rolls, the sources said.
Retired Air Force officer, wife assaulted
GHAZIABAD: Armed persons allegedly assaulted a 61-year-old retired Indian Air Force officer and his wife at their residence in Muradnagar area here and looted Rs 10 lakh on Tuesday, police said. Badan Singh and his wife Kamlesh, 55, were sleeping on the terrace of their Gangvihar colony residence, when five armed youths scaled the wall of the house early this morning, they said.

NBJP seeks CBI probe against Delhi CM
NEW DELHI: The BJP’s Delhi unit leaders met Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday and demanded a CBI enquiry against Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and her two cabinet ministers in the alleged Rs.1,000 crore transport scam. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders also expressed their resentment over no “impartial” probe being initiated against them. “No impartial inquiry is being conducted against Shiela Dikshit, Haroon Yusuf, Arvinder Singh Lovely and many IAS officers on the basis of proof collected on Right to Information applications,” said a statement issued by the BJP.

Ex-Iraqi Air Marshal gets new lease of life
NEW DELHI: An Air Marshal during Saddam Hussein’s reign, 63-year-old Iraqi national Abdul Karim Darvesh recently got a new lease of life after doctors here carried out a liver transplant on him. Darvesh was diagnosed with liver cancer some months ago in Iraq.
His family had almost given up hope when they came to know about the transplant facilities in India. “Darvesh’s CT scan confirmed that he was harbouring a cancer along with cirrhosis of liver. This required immediate liver transplant surgery,” Dr Sanjay Singh Negi, Director HPB (Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary) and Liver Transplantation Surgery from BLK Super Speciality Hospital.
