Thakur, an MLA from Indore III constituency, had taken part in a religious (Bhajan) programme organised by the disciples of Asaram on the eve of the New Year at Narsingh Watika in the city, where she reportedly performed the puja.
The Opposition Congress has targeted the BJP MLA over the issue. “By worshipping the photograph of Asaram what message
the BJP MLA wanted to give to the people. Is she supporting the acts of Asaram?,” Madhya Pradesh Congress spokesperson
Narendra Saluja told reporters here on Friday.
Saluja alleged that BJP leaders have dual policies on the issue of women’s security. “BJP leaders speak one thing and do one thing,” he alleged.
Efforts to contact Thakur on the matter proved futile. Asaram (72) was arrested from his ashram here on August 31, last year on the charges of sexual harassment of 16-year-old disciple.
