Actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty's birthday got off to an unfortunate start, with reports indicating that he was being questioned by the Kolkata Police on Wednesday morning. The actor who had joined the party in the run up to the West Bengal Assembly election is facing scrutiny for a rather controversial speech he had made during the campaign period. Officials contend that this remarks may have played a role in the poll-poll violence that occurred last month.
As per reports, the actor had gone to the Calcutta High Court to get the FIR against him cancelled. Following that, the HC had directed an investigating official to question Chakraborty virtually. The BJP leader contends that while his speech had included some problematic remarks, he had merely been quoting film dialogues.
Further details awaited.
