Patna : Ruby Rai, the student of Vishnudeo Ray College of Bhagwanpur in Vaishali district who had topped the intermediate arts examinations conducted by Bihar School Examination Board was arrested by special investigation team (SIT) probing the examinations result scam. A woman Deputy SP Ms Vandana will interrogate her. She is the first student to be arrested in the scam.
Ruby had gone to the office of the Bihar School Examination Board to appear before the experts who were called to interview her and test her merit. She had appeared before the experts committee after three notices given by the board. She was taken to Mahila police station by SIT from the board office for interrogation. She is one of the accuseds in the scam.
Three other toppers who are also named as accused had earlier appeared for interview on June 3. They too would be arrested, police said. The SIT team was camping in the board office when Ruby came for interview before the experts who were not satisfied with her replies. She had come with her parents. Ruby is the first student topper to be arrested in the scam.
So far, 18 people, including the then chairman of Bihar School Examination Board, Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh, former JDU MLA and then principal of Ganga Devi Mahila College, Usha Sinha, Bachcha Rai, principal of Vishnudeo Rai college and principals of four other colleges including two women have been arrested and lodged in Beur Central Jail. Vikash Kumar, personal assistant to the then chairman of the BSEB was also arrested on Saturday.
The three days police remand of Lalkeshwar, Usha Sinha, Pankaj Jaiswal concluded on Saturday and they were returned to Beur jail along with Bachcha Rai who was on day’s remand.
