Patna : Bacha Rai alias Amit Kumar, principal of Vishnudeo Roy College in Vaishali district was arrested by SIT from the college gate on Saturday morning. Rai, an RJD activist is the main accused of intermediate examinations scam.
The examinations are conducted by Bihar School Examination Board and Rai’s college had over 500 examinees on its roll.
The then chairman of board, Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh is also an accused in the case and is absconding.
While talking to media, Bachcha Rai claimed that he was surrendering at his college gate where several OB vans of the electronic channels were parked in advance. He had reportedly communicated to the mediapersons and a section of police about his plan to surrender.
He was immediately taken into custody by the waiting SIT officials. Evading the question about his association with RJD president Lalu Prasad, Rai claimed that he was innocent.
District education officer of Vaishali, Satyanarain Prasad was arrested on Friday evening. Both Rai and Prasad have been brought to Patna for questioning.
Earlier, five people, including principal of the GA College at Hajipur, where examinations took place were arrested.
Bachcha Rai’s College had gained financial assistance through the state government scheme to award incentives to the schools and college where large number of examinees gets first class. This scheme was launched in 2008 to promote excellence in education. College management received Rs 95 lakh as its students topped the examinations in class 10 and class 12 and all the students got first class marks.
