Bhagwant Mann suspended, panel to take call

New Delhi : Aam Aadmi Party MP Bhagwant Mann (42) has been virtually suspended from the Lok Sabha with Speaker Sumitra Mahajan constituting a 9-member House committee to suggest action against him for putting Parliament’s security in jeopardy by filming and putting its video on Facebook. The speaker has advised Mann not to attend the sitting till a decision is taken in the matter.

The committee headed by Mumbai’s BJP MP Kirit Somaiya, who had led the attack7 on Mann in the Lok Sabha on Friday, was asked to give its report by August 3, suggesting the action and how to prevent recurrence of such incidents. The Speaker said the House will consider the committee report and decide on the matter.

Mann, a popular stand-up comedian in Punjab, was asked to give his comments to the committee latest by 1030 hrs on Tuesday. He had deleted his Facebook video and tendered a written apology to the Speaker on Friday after Parliament was adjourned over his antics, saying he had no intention to harm the Parliamentary security system.

In a nearly 12-minute video that he had shared live on Facebook, Mann had filmed his vehicle crossing the security barricades outside Parliament.

In the Parliament attack on December 13, 2001, in which 13 persons, including five terrorists, lost

their lives, the desperadoes failed to enter the main building where the Prime Minister and others were seated because they did not know the security arrangements. These arrangements have now been exposed by Mann, the MPs have complained.
