Bangladesh FM assures of BCIM connectivity proposal

Kolkata : Bangladesh’s Finance Minister, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said that a proposal to establish connectivity between four Asian countries is in pipeline.

“The major problem is connectivity and that is the reason the BCIM – Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar – is going to form the economic corridor, is going to have an agreement for economic corridor. If we can make this economic corridor in the name of BCIM then connectivity will be there,” said Muhith at the inaugural function of 27th edition of Industrial Trade Fair-2014.

The finance minister was the guest of honour of the event and lit the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries, including provincial Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim.

Almost 600 participants are taking part in the trade fair, which is organised by Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BNCCI).

Countries like Vietnam, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, China, Mayanmar, Ghana and Turkey are participating in the week-long fair that will conclude on January 4, 2015.

In a bid to boost business, the minister invited the industrialists said Bangladesh was a good place for investment.

“We have come here not to attend this trade fair but to give a message to you that both the countries together can work very closely for the economic development of both the countries,” added Muhith.

Later, Hakim released the guidebook of Trade Fair.

The different departments of government of West Bengal especially in the areas of industry and infrastructure will also showcase in the pavilion.
