New Delhi: Commodore (retired) C Uday Bhaskar, a security expert, on Monday said that the bomb blast in Bangalore will dent investor confidence and create a sense of panic in the Information Technology (IT) capital of India.

“Bangalore is now considered to be the IT capital of India. In many ways, such attacks diminish or dilute the investor confidence and also create a sense of panic and terror in a major metropolitan centre,” Commodore (retd.) Bhaskar told ANI.

The security expert was reacting to an explosion, triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in front of a restaurant on the famed Church Street of Banaglore on Sunday, which resulted in the death of one person, with two others injured.

Commodore (retd.) Bhaskar further said the incident has presented a complex internal security challenge for India, as an average citizen is now being targeted with premeditated violence.

“I think [such incidents] point to a complex internal security situation, where the average citizen is now becoming a target of a certain pattern of premeditated violence. We should see this as yet another challenge to India’s internal security,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Bangalore Police Commissioner M N Reddi had said that special teams have been deployed to investigate the blast. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured that the Centre has offered help to the Karnataka government while Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, who termed the blast as a terror attack, stated that security needs to be beefed up with a high level of alertness.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah has announced a compensation of Rs five lakh for the next of kin of the deceased and to those who were injured in the incident.
