Kalyan: Mohan Mahajan (52) a rickshaw driver has been booked by Bazerpeth police station for gruesome act of killing his wife and slitting his daughter’s throat following an argument over not being informed about the latter’s upcoming wedding.

The accused had left his family, wife Manisha (45), daughter Gauravi (24) and son two years back. The family lived in Thankar pada at Bazarpeth in Kalyan, according to police sources. The argument began on Thursday night when Mohan discovered about his daughter’s marriage scheduled next week and he went to confront Manisha. During the verbal fight, Mahajan picked up a knife and stabbed Manisha. When Gauravi tried to intervene, Mahajan attacked her too and fled from the scene of the crime.

D Bhadane, police inspector, Bazarpeth police station, told Hindustan Times, “Upon hearing the scream, the locals rushed to Manisha’s home. Both the mother and daughter were taken to a nearby hospital. While Manisha was declared dead on arrival, Gauravi’s condition is critical.” Other Police officer added, “The couple was not on good terms. We have recovered the knife which was used to attack the duo.”

A case was registered against Mahajan under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections, police said.
