Jaipur: When Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot launched his son and made him a candidate from Jodhpur, a seat which Gehlot represented for five times, people thought that the party was well placed for the electoral battle. But the result proved otherwise as not only the party but his son too lost.
Even in the Congress circle, people are talking about the Gehlot’s mistake to launch his son when the tide was heavily against the Congress. But when he fielded his son, people thought that Congress was well placed, else he would not have launched his own son.
There was an intense Modi undercurrent in the state and neither Gehlot nor Pradesh Congress president Sachin Pilot, who is also the deputy Chief Minister, could understand it. Both of them were at loggerheads and both of them fielded their own candidates. Gehlot is considered a mass leader, but the result proved that he is a mistaken identity. He may have personal charm, but he is not Amarinder Singh or the BJD’s charismatic Naveen Patnaik.
In fact, Gehlot’s failure puts a question mark on his own leadership quality as he became the Chief Minister for the third time denying Sachin Pilot his claim on the plea that it was only he who could help the Congress win the Lok Sabha election. Gehlot had to bite the dust and he led the party to its all-time low.
