NEW DELHI: The government has appointed Anil Sinha as the new chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation. He will take over from Ranjit Sinha who retired on Tuesday after a tumultuous tenure of two years. Ranjit was in the glare of a recent controversy with Supreme Court directing him to step aside in a 2G scam probe. Anil was the Special Director, the second in command at the agency. His name was among the two shortlisted candidates chosen after a meeting at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence. An IPS officer from Bihar, he has earlier held several important positions in his home cadre. He was part of investigations of a number of disproportionate assets cases. He has also served as DIG and IG in Special Protection Group, New Delhi, and Additional Secretary in Central Vigilance Commission, reports NDTV.
