Gandhinagar: With a galaxy of ruling party leaders in attendance, BJP president Amit Shah filed his nomination papers for the Gandhinagar parliamentary constituency on Saturday at the end of an impressive spectacle that wound its way from Ahmedabad to the state capital. A member of the Rajya Sabha, this is Shah’s first Lok Sabha election. He takes over the constituency from party patriarch LK Advani who was elected seven times from here. Before filing his nominations, Shah told a mammoth gathering in Ahmedabad that he was acutely aware of his responsibilities and would carry forward the legacy with humility and dignity.
With BJP pulling out all stops to make the event a success and NDA big guns in attendance, it was truly Shah’s day. Present were Home Minister Rajnath Singh, transport minister Nitin Gadkari, railway minister Piyush Goyal, LJP leader Ramvilas Paswan, Shiv Sena chief Uddav Thackeray and Akali dal supremo Prakash Singh Badal. Before filing his nominations, Shah paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and addressed a rally followed by a four km long road show in Ahmedabad. He expressed his deep sense of gratitude to the party for making him whatever he is today. Gujarat will go the polls on April 23.
