New Delhi: BJP chief Amit Shah on Friday summoned party MP Kirti Azad, who has often attacked Arun Jaitley over “corruption” in the DDCA when he had headed it. Shah tried to dissuade an outspoken Azad from raking up the allegations at a time the AAP is using them to make political capital. Azad, however, is unfazed and sticking to his decision to hold a press conference on the issue on Sunday. “It was a good meeting (with Shah) but I am going ahead with my decision,” he said. Though there was no official comment on what transpired in the meeting, party sources said Shah advised Azad to exercise restraint, noting that opposition parties have used these charges to attack the BJP.
Shah’s summoning of Azad came a day after BJP general secretary Ram Lal called him up. The BJP is understood to have told Azad that these are old charges dating back to 2013 when Jaitley headed the DDCA and the Congress was in power at the Centre as well as in Delhi but nothing came out of them.
