Kolkata: West Bengal Governor K.N. Tripathi Thursday asked people not to draw any inferences from the CBI summoning political leaders in the state for questioning and called for allowing the central probe agencies to function independently.

“The central agencies should be allowed to work independently and without any prejudices,” Tripathi told reporters here.

“Part of their investigation is to call people and try to know the facts from them. So, I don’t think any inference should be drawn about who has been called,” Tripathi said.

The governor was reacting to the CBI summoning West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra and Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Srinjoy Bose for questioning in the multi-crore-rupee Saradha scam.

Probing the Saradha scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have among themselves, interrogated a host of Trinamool leaders, including several of its parliamentarians.

Led by party chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the ruling Trinamool has been accusing the BJP at the Centre of using the CBI and the ED against it.
