LUCKNOW : A great commotion was caused in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly premises on Friday when Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav, MP from Kannauj, were trapped in a lift in the Vidhan Bhawan for more than 23 minutes. The duo was unharmed even as a rescue team was at stand-by on the spot.
Yadav and his wife had arrived in the building to attend a children’s parliament (Bal Sansad) function at the Rajarshi Purushottam Das Tandon auditorium and left the venue on the second floor of the building. Even though the Chief Minister uses an exclusive lift, the contraption stopped midway between second and first floors. Its doors did not open and it did not move either upwards or downwards. The CM’s personal security officer and the liftman was with him in the trapped lift and since it had stopped a little above at the first floor level, efforts were made from outside to force it open. However, it opened on its own and the duo and others came out unharmed.
A big crowd of Vidhan Bhawan employees and officials gathered outside the lift and the officials in the meanwhile had called for an ambulance and gas masks in case of any emergency. The incident involving the CM who enjoys Z-Plus security posed a serious question over the functioning and maintenance of the lifts in the high-security building.
