Kolkata : The West Bengal unit of BJP has called a 12-hour bandh in the state on April 30 to protest against the alleged terror created by Trinamool Congress supporters during the municipal elections.
BJP state president Rahul Sinha announced that the bandh would be observed from 6 am to 6 pm. He urged the state Congress leadership to call a bandh separately on the same day. The West Bengal Left Front has already announced a 12-hour bandh call on the same day.
The Left has also called the bandh call on the same issue. A large number of BJP supporters led by Rahul Sinha assembled in front of the office of State Election Commissioner on Monday and demonstrated to protest against the alleged atrocities by the Trinamool Congress supporters and failure of the State Election Commission to organise the municipal polls peacefully.
The BJP supporters also demanded immediate resignation of the State Election Commissioner S R Updhyay. A scuffling ensued between the police and the BJP supporters during the demonstration. State CPI(M) leader Shyamal Chakraborty congratulated the BJP leadership for giving the bandh call. He said that all the political parties should unitedly organise agitation programme against the Trinamool Congress.
The Trinamool Congress condemned both Left Front and BJP. They alleged that this has proved that BJP and Left Parties have a nexus. They said that the Opposition parties have been trying to bring back the bandh culture in the state.
