Bengaluru: The Election Commission had to face an embarrassment as ace cricketer Rahul Dravid, one of its top ambassadors exhorting people to go out and vote, could himself not vote as his name was missing from the electoral rolls.

After this came to public domain, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora fumed and pulled up his Karnataka officials. Dravid’s name was deleted from Indiranagar after he shifted to Ashwathnagar RMV Extension. His name was struck off the Indiranagar rolls on his brother Vijay’s requisition. However, the cricketer’s name did not figure in the new address as he hadn’t applied for inclusion of his name.

Though it was Dravid’s fault, the CEC pulled up the local authorities and said though he had not applied, special care should have been taken to include his name as he is the ambassador of the EC. Election officials rushed to Dravid’s new residence after he had just returned from Barcelona and explained the matter. They took his signature on Form 6 for inclusion of his name in Malleswaram, his new constituency.

Polling officials have sent a report explaining how Dravid”s name got deleted. “It was deleted on the basis of requisition given by his brother in Form 7,” the report said. Until a voter submits Form 6, his name cannot be included in the electoral rolls. Meanwhile, Infosys co-founder ”Kris” Gopalakrishnan has tweeted saying “I have been voting for many years from South Bangalore. Can”t find my name or EPIC number in the list!”
