Sidelined Sultanpur MP meets Amit Shah, may be back in the reckoning for central team .
New Delhi : Once touted as one of the most promising young leaders of the party, BJP MP from Sultanpur Varun Feroze Gandhi may be back in the reckoning if recent developments in the party are any indication.
Varun, the youngest general secretary in Rajnath Singh’s team, has been cooling his heels ever since Amit Shah took over. Varun met Shah early on Monday. The meeting indicated that Varun may find some place in Shah’s new team at the centre when the central office bearers’ team is reconstituted. There are enough indications that Shah would get his full term as BJP president after completing the left over term of Rajnath Singh in December-end.
Sources said Varun was keen on being made the state president of Uttar Pradesh in the new set up. As head of the organization he would have automatically joined the list of probables for chief ministership in 2017. However, sources said the BJP top leadership is not keen to give him a slot in UP. A central office bearer’s position is more likely at this stage.
Meanwhile, the marathon meetings of the BJP top leadership with MPs of Uttar Pradesh concluded with stern warnings to all parliamentarians about their not-so-good performance on the ground. Sources said Shah and other central leaders pulled up the MPs for not opening round the clock offices in their respective areas and poor accountability in public-related work.
The result of the local body polls in Uttar Pradesh has come as a jolt to the BJP as its candidates have fared quite badly. This has signaled that the party may be losing its hold on the ground despite the staggering 73 out 80 seats lead in the Lok Sabha election last year.
