Bengaluru: Accusing the Aam Admi Party government of “betraying” the people of Delhi, Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today slammed it of having confrontation with the Centre “right from day one”. Gowda also dismissed allegations levelled by AAP blaming the Modi government for the arrest of its Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar in the alleged fake degree case.
“….the political allegations against the central government will end once the investigation reports comes out,” Gowda told reporters here.He said “this matter was known to the police about two months back, but after getting all the particulars, feedback from universities and other places…only then they have gone ahead to investigate the matter.”
As Minister for Law and Justice it was not fair on his part to comment on the issue, he said, adding, “I hope that truth will come out from the investigation.” Gowda said Kejriwal who had promised the people of giving a transparent, corruption free government had “betrayed” them. “This is evident from several incidents that took place after Kejriwal assuming charge as the Chief Minister of Delhi.”
Stating that this was not the first time that the government in Delhi did not have absolute powers, Gowda said “….we (central government) have not gone beyond the limits.” “….right from day one Kejriwal started to have confrontation with the Centre. It is not fair. Being a Chief Minister it is his responsibility to see to it how best he can make use of the Centre,” he added.
Gowda refuted the AAP charge that the Union government was trying to “micro-manage” the functioning of Delhi government. On land acquisition bill, he said the matter was before parliamentary standing committee and “let the report come. We have referred the matter to the committee where people from all parties will be there and it will be discussed.”
The Standing Committee chairman has called for a meeting with Chief Ministers, he said, adding, their views are important as the implementation had to be done by the states. Asked about Tamil Nadu government moving the Supreme Court against Karnataka over pollution of Cauvery river water, he said “Jayalalithaa went to the Supreme Court for other reasons, because (Assembly) elections are coming very soon in Tamil Nadu- to get benefit out of it.”
