New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday cleared a Bill for making Aadhaar more people friendly and making Aadhaar number accepted on voluntary basis as a KYC document.
I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar, who briefed the media on the Cabinet decisions, said it will make Aadhaar number for authentication as acceptable KYC document for opening the bank accounts.
The Bill also allows children to cancel their Aadhaar number on attaining the age of 18.
In yet another decision, the Cabinet approved a Bill to be introduced in the ensuing Parliament session for summary eviction of unauthorised occupants in the government’s residential accommodations. It replaces a Bill brought in 2017 that could not be passed. It will facilitate more government residences for the eligible persons.
Some other decisions by the Cabinet include a 2-month extension to the committee for sub-categorisation with the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the central list, reforms in medical and dental education and homeopathy through three different Bills, and a Bill to make India the hub of international arbitration.
Other Bills cleared by the Cabinet include the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers Cadre) Bill and a Bill for relief for the persons in Jammu and Kashmir living in areas close to the international borders and ensuring the residents reservation in recruitment in jobs, promotion and admission to the professional courses.
Javadekar said this reservation policy is a reflection of PM Modi’s vision of a pro-people government committed to Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas and Sabka Vishwas.
The Bill is to replace the ordinance promulgated early this year to bring the border residents in the ambit of reservation at par with persons living in areas adjoining the Actual Line of Control (LoC).
