Kolkata : Makra village in Parui block in trouble-torn Birbhum district turned into a battle field on Monday morning when a group of 100 armed goons raided the village in which three persons were gunned down and several others were injured. The attack was made allegedly to capture the village by the goons backed by the Trinamool Congress.
The Makra village is a stronghold of the BJP, the sources said. But Anubrata Mondal, Birbhum district Trinamool Congress president alleged that a group of CPI(M) supporters who have recently joined the BJP had led the attack and killed two of their supporters.
The trouble began when a group of Trinamool Congress supporters who had fled from the village came back today at Makra village. When they were entering the village, a clash ensued between the villagers and the Trinamool Congress supporters. Bombs were hurled indiscriminately and miscreants fired several rounds killing three persons and injuring several others. The miscreants also set fire to a number of houses before looting them.
The villagers alleged that though there was a police camp outside the village, no police personnel came to their rescue. A strong police contingent came to the scene after more than two hours of the incident. The Birbhum district BJP president Dud Kumar Mondal alleged that the miscreants also molested some village women. But the Trinamool Congress leadership denied the allegation.
