While one part of India is suffering from drought, the other part is fighting floods. It is proof enough that while a lack of water can kill, more of it can be fatal as well.

Ever thought what it could mean if your body suffered from a drought-like situation? Dehydration- dry-skin, headaches, tiredness, constipation and an overall drought-hit feeling- that’s how it is, primarily. While these are only early symptoms of dehydration, a continued situation like this could play havoc with the body that is made up of around 70% water. Remember seeing dry patches of land with people wishing for a drop of water? That is how the cells in our body become when deprived of water- weak and haggard, slowly ceasing their functions.

Does ‘have water’ sound boring to you? Seeking alternatives? Even though there are no real replacements for the tasteless, yet liquid elixir of life, here are some of the tiny delights that could go a long way in maintaining your smooth flow in life!

Orange, water melon, strawberry, grapes, cauliflower, cucumber, lettuce, radish, tomatoes, bell pepper, spinach, broccoli- have them and remind yourself how great consuming water could be. However, chew the fruits rather than sipping the juice obtained from them thanks to the good ol’ juicer at home. Why, you ask? Because chewing them not only strengthens your gums and jaws, but also provides fiber to your body to maintain its digestive functions.

Consists of 80% water and provides essential calcium, choline, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamins A, D,B-6, B-12,  riboflavin… The list looks huge. Why not give it a try? It smells bad, complain many. Many stores stock up on mild flavors that could help solve that problem. Soy and almond milk are other alternatives.

Studies have revealed that meat contains almost 60% of water. So as you develop your tastes and muscles and reap the benefits of meat, you increase your water intake as well.

A healthy option, packed with solutions for all your digestive issues, memory, immune system, bone strengthening and joint pains- it is a boon in disguise!

While you set out with your shopping bags, a quick tip: don’t be fooled by colorful, attractive items. While they may seem attractive to your eyes, don’t be rest assured that they would be equally attractive for your tummy. Go with your gut feeling! Have a happy hydration therapy.
