Anil Sinha: New CBI Director

The government has appointed Anil Sinha as the new chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He will take over from Ranjit Sinha who retired on 2nd December 2014 after a tumultuous tenure of two years. Ranjit was in the glare of a recent controversy with Supreme Court directing him to step aside in a 2G scam probe.

Anil Kumar Sinha was an 1979 batch IPS officer from Bihar who has earlier held several important positions including ADG (law and order) and ADG (vigilance) before moving to the Centre. He was awarded the police medal for meritorious service in 2000 and the President’s police medal for distinguished service in 2006.

He was part of investigations of a number of disproportionate assets cases. He has also served as DIG and IG in Special Protection Group, New Delhi, and Additional Secretary in Central Vigilance Commission. He was the Special Director, the second in command at the CBI since May 15, 2013. Sinha holds a post – graduate degree in psychology and an M.Phil in strategic studies. He also attended the prestigious Kennedy School of Government in Harvard University.
