Vijayawada: Five dead, three critical after consuming illicit liquor

Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh): At least five persons died and three others seriously fell ill after consuming illicit liquor at a local bar in Krishna Lanka area in Vijayawada on Monday. The victims, who are said to be daily wagers, allegedly consumed the adulterated liquor before going to the work.

The excise department officials immediately seized the bar and collected samples of the liquor sold. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the incident and ordered a probe into the incident.

Naidu enquired about the incident with the collector of Krishna district and directed the officials to provide better medical treatment to the victims.

Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra consoled the families of the victims and also met the families of the people who are undergoing treatment at the hospital and inquired about their health condition.

He said the culprits behind the incident will be taken to task whoever they might be.

He asked the officials to provide better medical aid to those victims who are being attended to in government hospital.

Meanwhile, the main opposition in the State, YSR Congress Party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock and grief over the deaths and demanded the government to order for a judicial probe into the tragic incident.
