Valentine’s Day protest: Bajrang Dal activists forcibly marry off couple in Hyderabad

Hyderabad (Telangana): Activists of the Bajrang Dal group on Thursday forcibly married off a young couple at a park in Kandlakoya village, on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The incident was reported from Oxygen Park in Kandlakoya village in Medchal district of Telangana. Bajrang Dal activists found the two teenagers in a park and forced them to get married in the park. “A few Hindu activists came to Kandlakoya Oxygen Park and forced a couple to get married. We are verifying the incident whether the couple gave their consent to it or were they teenagers. We will soon identify the accused,” said Balanagar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Padmaja.

Speaking to ANI State Convenor of Bajrang Dal Subash Chander said: “The activists involved in forcing the couple to get married don’t belong to Bajrang Dal. We have already ordered our activists to stay away from such activities and just create awareness among the people.” Further, a video of the whole episode filmed by the activists and uploaded on social media. In the video the boy can be seen tying around the girl’s neck a thread smeared with turmeric, which appears to be a ‘mangalsutra.’ The video also shows that the activists congratulating the couple and also clicking a picture with them.
