New Delhi: The Supreme Court Tuesday set a May 31, 2014, deadline for owners of the unauthorised flats in Mumbai-based Campa Cola society to vacate their homes.

The apex court order by the bench headed by Justice G.S. Singhvi came after Attorney General G.E. Vahanvati informed the court that no specific proposal can be given to find an alternate solution.

In course of the last hearing, the court had asked Attorney General G.E. Vahanvati to suggest a proposal in consultation with the affected flat owners of the Campa Cola society.

On Nov 13, the Supreme Court suspended till May next year  demolition of the illegal flats in the Campa Cola Society minutes after the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) bulldozers, acting on another order of another apex court bench, moved in to pull down the flats.

The court said that the affected flat owners will give an undertaking within six weeks from Tuesday stating that they will vacate their flats by May 31, 2014.

The apex court added that the BMC will be free to proceed with against those who do not file the undertaking to comply with the May 31 deadline.
