Trinamool’s Left acquisition gets into Draupadi’s hair

Kolkata :  The state BJP on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Trinamool Congress nominee from Bhangar Assembly constituency, Abdur Rezeak Mollah, for making derogatory remarks about party candidate and film personality Rupa Ganguly.

The ‘incorrigible’ Mollah has also uttered objectionable comments against two other stars — Trinamool Congress MPs Deb and Moonmoon Sen.

While talking to a television channel, Mollah, who had recently crossed over to Trinamool Congress, said that he had a clear idea about  “the length of the cigarettes Rupa smokes” and whom she stays with.

Stretching the obnoxious analogy further, he observed that “there is a similarity between the reel-life Draupadi and the real Draupadi”. (It will be recalled that Rupa had played the role of Draupadi in the blockbuster TV serial Mahabharat.)

‘‘Mollah is a shame to West Bengal politics,” Jayprakash Mazumder, a state BJP leader, said. He had led a party delegation that met the chief electoral officer and lodged a complaint.

Reacting to the remark, Ganguly said that women of West Bengal would give an appropriate answer to the remark in the ensuing Assembly election.

“This has become a practice in West Bengal to insult women and the Chief Minster is responsible for this,” Ganguly alleged.

Kaushik Sen, renowned theatre personality, demanded that people across the political spectrum should raise their voice. Incidentally, Mollah has also flayed his leader Mamata Banerjee for nominating film stars as MPs in order to “suppress infighting within the party.”

Both Deb and Moonmoon Sen did not do any public work after being elected party MPs, he had remarked.

Mollah was land reforms minister in the Left Front government and has been winning from Bhangar Assembly constituency since 1977. The CPM recently suspended Mollah for alleged anti party activities after that he joined the Trinamool Congress.

Standing up for Ganguly, Sen said, “She may belong to another party but we are civilized and intelligent human beings.” Mollah, she added, “probably doesn’t believe in scriptures… or his Marxist ideology.”
