Mumbai : The Central railway is working robustly towards introducing the 12 car locals on the harbour line. The successful trials of the 12 car train on the harbour line were conducted on Tuesday night.
The trials were taken up on the CST- Mankurd route both Up and Down directions. The Central Railway recently had announced that the 12 car locals on the harbour line will start till end of this month.
The platforms on the harbour line between CST and Mankurd are extended in order to accommodate the 12 car trains.
While, the platforms beyond Mankurd in Navi Mumbai were already constructed in a way to accommodate 12 car trains.
Some encroachment issues on the Dockyard Road station delayed platform extension work which eventually delayed the trials of the 12 car trains. The CR had initially announced the introduction of the 12 car trains from April 1.
However, now after completion of all the platforms and successful trials CR is ready to introduce 12 car trains on the harbour line. It is likely that till April 30, the services will start. The 12 car trains will reduce 33 percent rush on the harbour line.
