New Delhi : Former Congress general secretary Gurudas Kamat just needed a persuasive phone call by the Congress president Sonia Gandhi to come to New Delhi for a meeting. Party sources said that Kamat, who was scheduled to meet the Congress president on Thursday, arrived in the capital on Wednesday evening.

A few days ago, a disillusioned Kamat had retired from active politics and given up his position as the party general secretary, even as he maintained that he had full faith in the leadership of the Congress president and her son Rahul, the party’s vice president.

Kamat is reported to have a lot of issues with the Mumbai Congress leadership, and his resignation was attributed to these differences. It was also seen as a sign of the growing inability of Rahul Gandhi to manage the conflicts arising out of internal party differences.

It is amid these circumstances that the Congress president has stepped in to placate Kamat; however, there was no word on the same kind of conciliatory gesture towards former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi who has also announced his decision to a form a regional party in the state, having declared his ‘freedom from the Congress.”

BJP anti-Dalit

With the RSS ideologue Ram Bahadur Rai, who is now the chairman of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, arguing that Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s role in the making of the Indian Constitution is myth, the Congress has charged that this reflects the anti-Dalit mind set of the saffron clan.

‘‘In an interview to a weekly, Rai had said that Babasaheb has merely corrected the English language of the Constitution. This way, he has offended the sentiments of millions of Indians across the country. Not only has he offended the sentiments of millions of Indians who hold him in high esteem as the architect of the constitution, he has revealed the anti-Dalit mind set of the RSS-BJP,” said party spokesperson K Raju.
