Rahul Mukerjea allegedly stopped looking for Sheena after he received a text message, that said “I am happy with someone else in my life and settling down with him in the US.”
Mumbai : With the police waddling through an intriguing web of lies in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, investigators on Saturday turned their full attention on Rahul Mukerjea, Sheena’s alleged fiancé. The recovery of Sheena’s passport from Rahul’s residence in Dehradun, where he lives with his mother Shabnam Walia, has raised suspicions on Rahul as he earlier claimed that he believed Indrani that Sheena had left for the US despite her passport being with him.
When grilled by the cops on Saturday, Rahul allegedly told the police that Indrani told him that Sheena had got a new passport made and had left for the US.
Interestingly, Rahul also told the cops that he stopped looking for Sheena after he received an SMS from her number stating, “I am happy with someone else in my life and I am settling down with him in the US.” According to police, it was Indrani who sent the message to Rahul because it was she who was impersonating Sheena and was using her phone for about a year after Sheena was killed.
Rahul told police that he had approached Khar and Worli police to search Sheena, however he stopped his pursuit after he received that SMS.
Rahul allegedly told cops, “I was heartbroken and therefore stopped search- ing her.” Rahul later shifted to Dehradun and started living with her mother Shabnam. Sources say that the police don’t seem to be convinced with Rahul’s answers, and will grill him further.
Indrani wanted to flee to UK?
According to investigators, Indrani had plans to shift to the UK and live with Vidhi, her daughter from her marriage with Sanjeev Khanna, after getting all the shares in Sheena’s name transferred onto her name. Sheena allegedly had shares in several companies. “Indrani planned to get away with the entire money and settle in the UK with her daughter Vidhi,” a police officer said.
Also, sources say that Shyam Rai, Indrani’s driver, has revealed before the cops that Indrani had promised him and Sanjeev Khanna a particular amount after Sheena’s shares get transferred on her name.
According to an officer from Khar police station, Indrani had asked Sheena several times to transfer her shares in her name, to which Sheena always refused.
