New Delhi: In a diplomatic victory for India, Saudi Arabia has agreed to give exit visas to hundred of jobless Indian construction workers there, send them back home at its own expense, settle their unpaid wages.

It will also provide food, civil amenities and medical facilities to those stranded in camps and also allow those eligible to seek re-employment with other companies.

The Indian workers wanting to return home can register their claims of unpaid salaries and other dues, before departing, with the Labour Office of Saudi Arabia. The Indian embassy in Riyadh will follow up the matter with the Saudi authorities to get all the dues of the workers cleared.

In a suo motu statement, the first in the Rajya Sabha and then in the Lok Sabha, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said she was happy to announce that the Saudi King has taken note of the plight of the Indian workers and instructed the officials to resolve the issues in two days. She said her deputy and Minister of State for External Affairs was camping in Saudi Arabia since Tuesday evening and will return after formalising the arrangements.
