New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party’s Delhi unit chief Satish Upadhyay on Saturday said that the notice issued by the Election Commission to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal has brought out the ‘truth’ about him, adding that the former Delhi chief minister should tender an apology to the people of the city.

“The truth has come out and Kejriwal should tender apology to the people of Delhi. If he repeats the same thing again, then strict investigation will be done on him. He was given the notice because he alters the truth and also violated the Model Code of Conduct,” Upadhyay told ANI.

“The kind displeasure has been expressed by the Election Commission in their notice is shameful. There cannot be any bigger thing than the kind of censures that have been put to him just before the elections,” he added.

The Election Commission (EC) had issued a notice against Kejriwal on Friday for violating the Model Code of Conduct by making false allegations against Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay.

This step by the Commission came on the heels of yet another notice served to the AAP chief over his controversial ‘bribe’ remark, after Congress leader K.C. Mittal filed a complaint to the Election Commission for the same.

Kejriwal, while addressing a rally in the national capital last week had suggested that the people of Delhi accept bribes from other political parties, but cast their votes for him. The Election Commission had sent a notice to Kejriwal for the same and had asked for an explanation by January 22.

The former Delhi chief minister had also levelled graft allegations against Upadhyay, and had accused the BJP of attempting to incite communal violence in the national capital.
