Samajwadi Party has changed its candidate from Varanasi who was contesting elections against Narendra Modi. However, now SP has given ticket to Tej Bahadur Yadav (BSF constable who was dismissed from service after he had released video last year on quality of food served to soldiers).

Earlier, SP’s Shalini Yadav had filed her nomination from Varanasi on April 22. Yadav is the daughter-in-law of former Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson Shyam Lal Yadav.

She had unsuccessfully run for the Mayoral poll of Varanasi Municipal Corporation in 2017 from the Congress.

Her father-in-law was a senior Congress leader and had represented Varanasi in the Parliament. Varanasi and Chandauli will go to polls on May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.

Talking about, Tej Bahadur earlier was contesting elections independently, but now it seems like he has got a support of Akhilesh Yadav.
