Lok Sabha elections 2019 are going to be held in April and all the parties in the country have started luring the voters with new promises. On the other hand, Congress is trying to attract voters by targeting BJP and bringing up the alleged scams and controversies which happened during Modi government tenure. There are numbers of alleged scams and controversies in BJP government’s name. So in this article we are going to discuss about some factors which could put the Modi government on back foot.
Indian Air Force bombarded JeM base in Pakistan after Pulwama attack were 40 CRPF perssonel were martyred. According to media reports, more than 300 terrorists were killed. But the air strike was under radar of opposition parties who constantly demanded proof of the attack. Even many international media questioned the air strike and claimed that bombarding happened but on the barren land in which only one individual was injured.
This is the biggest allegation Modi government is facing currently. According to Congress, the jets were ordered on the low price but after Modi government took over they purchased jets by paying 10 times more and gave all the benefit to Anil Ambani. However, the case is in apex court. But it is surely going to cause some trouble for BJP.
On November 8 2016, PM Modi arrived on national television and announced that from tomorrow all Rs 1,00,0 and Rs 500 notes will not be legit. It was a move to curb black money, but opposition parties claim that it was a scam led by Modi government to turn all the black money white for those who are the close associates of government. The entire demonetization turned into a blunder and BJP had to face rage of opposition parties. Even today, Congress takes a jibe at BJP over demonetisation and still calls it a scam. More than 100 people lost their lives due to demonetisation as per reports.
To cut down privileges of Muslin men, the Modi government introduced a law where a Muslim man cannot give his wife instant talaq. Many Muslim clerks were furious and slammed government over the bill. The major grievance of Muslim men was that in case of a man facing criminal charges because of triple talaq, the sentence given to him is too long, while for other heinous crimes, the sentence is short. They say it’s a discrimination and have demanded to cut down the sentence.
Goods and service tax aka Gabbar Singh Tax, as termed by Congress. When the GST was launched, it confused people as there was no proper planning done before a launch. Even others, who are providing services were left in a state of confusion and many customers complained that they were charged extra. Oppositions started bashing BJP for rolling out GST without proper planning.
The fugitive Nirav Modi is having his best time abroad after scamming over Rs 12,000 crore of Punjab National Bank. Nirav is in London living in luxury apartment, but political parties in India are blaming Modi government for the scam as they knew that Nirav will leave the country after the scam.
Adani power scam:
Earlier, not everyone knew about Gautam Adani but after Modi became PM, the Gujarat businessman was all over the news for its big projects. Gautam’s company Adani power was in the news as Congress is accusing BJP government for covering up Adani group’s Rs 50K-crore power scam.
This is the controversy related to awarding of chikki contracts worth Rs 206 crore for school children. In June 2015, Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant had filed a complaint with the ACB, alleging BJP leader Pankaja Munde’s ministry had, on her orders, flouted rules and favoured certain companies when awarding the contracts in February.
The tale of Ram Mandir controversy is very long. However, let’s cut it short and come to the issue which is Mandir Kab Banenga? People and fringe groups are asking BJP government when Ram Mandir will be constructed. Even BJP’s ally Shiv Sena slammed Modi and his government for making ‘false’ promises. BJP, in its 2014 manifesto, promised to construct Ram Mandir but they have failed. However, the issue is in Supreme Court and debates are going.
Slaughtering of cows is banned in most of the states in India from decades but beef politics became strong during BJP’s regime. There have been many cases where people were mobbed, lynched just in the name of beef. Soon after few killings in the name of cow slaughtering, the issue was on the national level and turned into religious politics. BJP government had to face backlash for politicising the issue and opposition parties alleged that the government did not do anything to stop it.
