Lahore : Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has filed a resolution in the Punjab Assembly demanding that the government should convince the United Nations to term Shiv Sena a ‘terror outfit’ and ban it for its alleged acts against the Muslims of both nations.

According to Pakistan Today, the resolution, moved by PPP MPA Faiza Malik, states that the house condemns the Shiv Sena’s extremist activities and considers it a threat against regional peace. The resolution said that the Muslims and people, who endorse minority faith, are no longer safe in India. The development comes in the wake of protests by the Shiv Sena in Mumbai yesterday to stall the proposed India-Pakistan cricket series slated to be held later this year.

Following the Shiv Sena’s protest to derail the BCCI-PCB talks in Mumbai, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday announced the withdrawal of Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar from the remaining two matches of the ongoing India-South Africa one-day series. Pakistani commentators Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar also announced their withdrawal from commentating duties on grounds of security.

If the Shiv Sena is declared a terror outfit, India may be affected in the same way as Pakistan in 2009 when a bus carrying Sri Lankan cricketers was fired upon by 12 gunmen, near the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The Shiv Sena had earlier come under sharp criticism following the ink attack on Observer Research Foundation (ORF) chairman Sudheendra Kulkarni hours before the book launch of former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri.
