New Delhi : Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Saturday said that Narendra Modi should conduct himself as ‘the Prime Minister of a country’ and not as a ‘party campaigner’. He said it wasn’t fair on the Prime Minister’s part to say that nothing was done during UPA regime, adding that even the Harvard Business School studied the success of the railway model during RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister.

“This kind of politics should not be practiced by the Prime Minister. He is the Prime Minister of the country and he should not be going to every state where there is an election or where there has recently been an election in order to conduct himself like a party campaigner,” Tharoor said.

“The truth is that everyone knows many of the good things that have happened and many of the things that have failed to happened….To say nothing has been done is clearly not particularly fair,” he added.

Inaugurating the newly constructed Digha-Sonepur rail-cum-road bridge in Hajipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that the project could have been completed much earlier if it wasn’t neglected for the last 10 years, alluding to the UPA regime.

“If it was not neglected for the last ten years, then it would have been completed in five-seven years. This project of Rs. 600 crore got delayed and due to this, the cost of the project went up to Rs. 3000 crore. We have to address the present needs of the people but at the same time we need to create long term systems,” he said in his address after inaugurating the bridge.
