New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar Thursday said the incident in which Andhra Pradesh parliamentarian, who has been expelled from the Congress, Thursday used pepper spray inside the house is a shame.

“Our parliamentary democracy is admired throughout the world. What has happened today is a blot (on the democracy),” she told reporters.

Adding that the incident is a shame, Meira Kumar said she would have consultations on what is to be done.

Lagadapati Rajagopal, an MP from Vijayawada, used pepper spray inside the Lok Sabha when the Telangana bill was being tabled.

High drama took place when union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde rose to table the bill at noon.

The strong, pungent odour triggered coughing among the parliamentarians who rushed out of the house.
